Great American Wheat Harvest and Miss America 2011

Reposted from the Barn Anew Blog

The Barn was buzzing with excitement last week.  We were honored to be hosts to Conrad Weaver of ConjoStudios, LLC, producer of the documentary, “The Great American Wheat Harvest”.  Meeting at the Barn with him from Billings, Montana, were Melody Dobson of Baseline Communications and Jody Lamp of Lamp PR & Marketing.  To get the marketing campaign for the documentary jump started  Teresa Scanlan, 2011 Miss America, was also here to tape a PSA for the film, before she boarded a plane for the Middle East to visit with America’s troops. ”The Great American Wheat Harvest” tells the agricultural story of America’s wheat producers and the combine crews that travel the plains of the Midwest from Texas to the Canadian border.  Their annual cross country trek is a saga which captivated Conrad Weaver’s imagination and thus the impetus to create the film.  The documentary will tell the saga of America’s harvest crews, who cut deep furrows through 10 states, not only with the wide swaths that their combines and harvest machinery have sculptured the prairies with, but also the personal drama of deep human relationships, arduous work, tragedies and joys and celebrations.  It is an American story that all Americans need to know.  After having seen the film, you will definitely have a deeper appreciation for the loaf of bread that you lift from the grocery store shelf and load into your shopping cart.  And you will have a deeper respect for American agriculture!

Film Maker Reveals NEW Wheat Harvest Movie Title

Frederick, MD – May 3, 2012 – Maryland-based independent filmmaker, Conrad Weaver of ConjoStudios, LLC, along with Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan, told KNEB News in Scottsbluff, Neb., on Wednesday, that GREAT AMERICAN WHEAT HARVEST is the title for the new wheat harvest movie documentary. Watch the video from KNEB.

Endorsing the efforts to promote a positive story about agriculture and the process that it takes to produce the food we eat, Scanlan supported the documentary project by filming a public service announcement to help recruit interest in sponsorship, in her hometown area of Gering and Scottsbluff, Neb., at the Barn Anew Bed & Breakfast business of Cher and Allen Maybee.

Set to release Spring 2014, the Great American Wheat Harvest documentary will follow the wheat harvest 10-state region from Texas up to the Canadian border, featuring the stories of America’s wheat producers and the hard-working harvesting crews.

Weaver told KNEB News he got the idea for the film two years ago after following a wheat harvest blog, All Aboard Harvest, published by the High Plains Journal. He met Scanlan last year at The Food For Thought event at Kansas State University and asked if she would participate in the promotional trailer that will be used to help raise the funding for the production costs of the movie.

Miss America 2011, Teresa Scanlan Endorses Film

Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan Speaks Out to Promote American Documentary Wheat Harvest Movie

Frederick, MD – April 25, 2012 – Continuing her efforts to speak out in support of American agriculture, Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan joins Maryland-based independent filmmaker, Conrad Weaver of ConjoStudios, LLC, to help promote and share the story of where our nation’s food comes from and how it is produced.
Filming on location from her hometown area of Gering and Scottsbluff, Neb., Scanlan plans to help Weaver voice a call to action for American agriculture to support and promote the production of the Wheat Harvest Movie, an American documentary set to release Spring 2014.

Scanlan says she is honored to be an advocate for the film, which will encompass a 10-state region and showcase the lives of hard-working American families, who spend as many as 100 days each year traveling from state to state harvesting the wheat that feeds the world.

“Because the average American is becoming generations removed from the farm, most people don’t understand the connection between the thousands of family farms across the country and the food that ends up on their table,” she says. “It’s important for us to keep telling the story and inform people about the farmers and harvesters that help make our food supply a safe, abundant, and affordable reality.”

Weaver applauds Scanlan’s continued efforts to speak out for agriculture and carry the positive story to non-agriculture audiences who might not otherwise hear the farmers and ranchers message.

“We couldn’t be more honored to be working with Teresa in this capacity and appreciate the national presence she brings to American agriculture,” he says. “The farmers and harvesters featured in the movie take an incredible financial risks to ensure this vital crop helps feed our nation and world.”

Weaver also recently collaborated with two Billings, Mont., based independent, public relations and marketing consultants to serve as ConjoStudios’ national executive co-coordinators for the Wheat Harvest Movie. Melody Dobson of Baseline Communications and Jody Lamp of Lamp Public Relations & Marketing will provide strategic planning, public relations and marketing services to bring a collaborated group of partners together for support of the project.

The new movie title will be announced soon. A promotional trailer for the film can be seen at www.wheatharvestmovie.com. A digital file of the promo trailer also is available upon request.
